Played by the biggest star of the moment, Timothée Chamalet, Wonka is to become an iconic movie, like the previous “Call me by tour name” that has inspired tours in Italy.
The eternal tale of Willy Wonka’s “The Chocolate Factory” goes back to cinema with “Wonka” on December 14, 2023. Directed by Paul King, the film is about the origins of Willy Wonka, a genial and eccentric character created by Roald Dahl and interpretated by Timothée Chamalet. Wonka is a prequel, that shows how Willy has become the owner of the renowned Chocolate Factory and how he has met, for the first time, his loyal Oompa-Loompas, the little, orange-skinned creatures that help him to realize his amazing confectionery.
The film celebrates diversity and creativity, two values that are very dear to the LGBTQ+ community. Willy Wonka is a character not influenced by social conventions, but he follows his passion and his vision, even when he faces obstacles and enemies. He is an example of how people can realize themselves following their own dream, even if this seems impossible, or weird to the eyes of others. Wonka is also a character who welcomes and enhances differences, as evidenced by his relationship with Oompa-Loompas which he considers his friends and collaborators, more than ordinary employees. He is able to appreciate the beauty and magic that are hidden behind everything, passing on awe and wonder of discovery of one’s neighbor.
Wonka promises to be an intoxicating mix of magic and music, chaos, and emotions narrated with sensitivity and humor. The all-star cast also includes Olivia Colman, Hugh Grant, Sally Hawkins, Rowan Atkinson and Matt Lucas. It is produced by David Heyman, the same producer of Harry Potter and Paddington and it is based on screenplay by Paul King and Simon Farnaby, who have been able to create an original and immersive story, while respecting the spirit of Roald Dahl’s work.
Wonka is not just a funny film, but it will make audience of all ages dream. It can also inspire and encourage anyone who feels different or an outsider to believe in her/himself and to express her/his own personality.
The great expectation for Wonka is also due to the star Timothée Chamalet, which premiered at cinema with “Call Me by Your Name”, film directed by Luca Guadagnino in 2017. Based on the novel of the same name by André Aciman, this film is about the love story between Elio, an American guy of 17 and Oliver, an American student of 24, who spens their vacation together in the country house of Elio’s family in Lombardy. The film has received many awards, including the Oscar for best non-original script and it is considered a masterpiece of LGBTQ+ cinema.
For fans of “Call Me by Your Name”, Quiiky Tour Operator has created a LGBTQ+-friendly tour to discover the film locations and to relive all the special moments of love between Elio and Oliver.
