The city leader of Florence, Lorenzo de Medici got his life saved by his friend and counselor Poliziano, who had never revealed that he loved boys. At the time, Donatello‘s scandalous bronze statue of David, the police of Florence at the time had a special department battling the streets at night to catch men who loved men, at the time who were called sodomites. Leonardo da Vinci, who used to stroll along the same streets at night, was involved in a scandalous affair of sodomy at age 25. He was known to have preserved his virginity to stay away from sin, but later confessed his affection and attraction for a young novel pupil.
