2023 is shaping up to be a year full of Pride in Italy and events dedicated to the LGBTQIA+ community.
However, attending a Pride is not the prerogative of only queer people. Pride (also known as Gay Pride or LGBTQ Pride) is for all people, regardless of their sexual orientation and/or gender identity. It is hoped that more and more cishet (heterosexual and cisgender) people will participate in this rainbow event, which is usually held in June, during the so-called Pride Month.
It is because of the privileges that cishet people hold in our society (still far too heterocisnormative) that so much can be done for our community: more building blocks can be put in place towards creating a more inclusive and welcoming society towards minorities, and through the strength of cishet allies, further representation can be given to LGBTQIA+ people and fight the discrimination they face in their everyday lives, in workplaces, schools, families, etc.
