Gay Beaches in Sicily: Discover the Most Beautiful Nature Reserves

The gay beaches in Sicily are natural worldly paradises, the ideal place to relax and enjoy a few days away from your usual routine. Visiting gay beaches in Sicily, including those that are natural reserves, means immersing yourself in crystal clear waters, admiring landscapes and being enveloped by the scents of the island.

If you are looking for peace and tranquility, are a lover of nature and enjoy the quiet of the sea, we recommend that you visit the island during the months from June to September or October when the climate is not too hot and Sicily is not flourishing with tourists.

Gay beaches in Sicily: the best natural reserves

The island of Sicily has always been a very welcoming and inclusive island characterized by a long LGBTQ+ history. It is one of the most loved destinations in Italy by LGBTQ+ travelers from all over the world, both for its artistic and cultural heritage, as for the natural wonders found on the gay beaches in Sicily.

As a whole, the Sicilian region includes 4 regional parks and 76 nature reserves. These make the destination a real paradise on Earth for lovers of nature, hiking, adventure, and sports.

Some of Sicily’s gay beaches are located within some of the most beautiful natural reserves on the island. We recommend renting a boat to enjoy even the most hidden coves and inlets.

Among the best known natural offerings are the Zingaro, Vendicari, Cavagrande del Cassibile, Torre Salsa, Parco delle Mandonie and Saline di Trapani.

Gay beaches in Sicily: The Zingaro Nature Reserve

Established in 1981, the Zingaro Nature Reserve is one of the most beautiful and evocative nature reserves in Sicily and throughout Italy. About 10 km of coastline between Scopello and San Vito lo Capo, accessible daily (subject to inclement weather warnings) from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Walk along its unmistakable path overlooking the sea and enjoy breathtaking views.

Along the coast, visitors will find 7 beaches and coves that can be reached both by land and sea. They are characterized by an undisturbed nature, amazing colors in every season, and beaches full of white sand. While not explicitly declared as “gay” beaches in Sicily, they are all welcoming and inclusive. The small coves in particular are ideal if you are looking for privacy and seclusion.

Otherwise, you can venture into one of the 3 trails available in the Riserva dello Zingaro and enjoy its rich and varied Mediterranean vegetation, its suggestive caves and its five museums. The 3 paths have different difficulties for hikers looking for adventure or accessibility. For more info, visit https://www.riservanaturalezingaro.com

Gay beaches in Sicily: The Vendicari Nature Reserve

Located between Noto and Marzamemi, the Vendicari Nature Reserve extends over more than 1,500 acres and includes kilometers of beaches and thousands ways to get in direct contact with nature. Here, too, there are 3 paths that will lead you to discover different areas of the reserve.

Inside, there is one of the most famous gay beaches in Sicily: the Marianelli beach. After a short 20-minute walk, you will find yourself immersed in a natural oasis of tranquility. Topped by sandy dunes and surrounded by almond groves, it is a wild beach, much loved by nudists and not very popular even in the high season.

Gay beaches in Sicily: The Natural Reserve of the Saline di Trapani and Paceco

Established in 1995, the Saline di Trapani and Paceco Nature Reserve includes the stretch of coast that goes from Trapani to Marsala. The salt pools have a centuries-long history and today they are one of the most visited places in all of Sicily. It is a world wildlife foundation oasis, noted as a Special Protection Area and Special Conservation Area.

Its natural heritage is very rich and rare species are preserved both in terms of flora and fauna. Everything is surrounded by kilometers of coast with crystal clear sea.

Pay a visit to the reserve to admire the salt pools, discover their history, and join a guided tour so as not to miss any detail and finally a boat trip to enjoy the splendid sea.

Along the coast of the Saline di Trapani Nature Reserve, you will find other beautiful beaches where you can relax and sunbathe. Although there are no specifically-gay defined beaches in Sicily you will not have problems feeling welcome here.

Gay Beaches in Sicily: The Torre Salsa Nature Reserve

Located between Siculiana Marina and Eraclea Minoa, the WWF Oasis of Torre Salsa is an unspoiled natural paradise that includes some of the most beautiful beaches in all of Sicily.

About 6 kilometers of wild nature, from which an ancient watchtower, the Torre Salsa, stands out.

In Eraclea Minoa there is one of the most famous gay beaches in Sicily, an inlet characterized by pristine and very blue waters with a grove where you can relax in the hottest hours of the day. Despite being considered one of the most beautiful and wildest beaches in southern Sicily, it is not very crowded even in the high season. Definitely makes for the ideal place for some peace and tranquility.

Gay beaches in Sicily: The Cavagrande del Cassibile Reserve

In the province of Syracuse, between the municipalities of Syracuse, Noro and Avola is the Cavagrande del Cassibile Nature Reserve, a reserve of about 10 kilometers in length established in 1990 to preserve the local flora and fauna. It is a huge canyon created by the river that runs through the reserve, the Cassibile River.

There are several paths for hiking, excursions, and to reach the major point of interest of the Cavagrande del Cassibile reserve: the Avola lakes, natural pools with blue and pristine waters immersed in a breathtaking scenery. A wonderful location where you can take a dip on a hot day away from the sea.

Given the distance from the sea, there are no actual beaches within this reserve, but if you love nature, we absolutely recommend a visit and a swim in the lakes of Avola, included by CNN among the 20 best places in the world to swim.
