5 Ways to Celebrate LGBTQ+ Pride in Italy

Pride month is officially here! And while this year may feel a little different as the world continues to overcome the pandemic, there are still so many ways to celebrate Pride all across Italy this year. Whether you prefer to celebrate Pride with live music, culture, festivals, food, events, or even from the comfort of your home, Italy’s biggest cities are serving up celebrations throughout June and the rest of 2021 that prove Italy embraces its LGBTQ+ citizens, visitors, and advocates from around the world.

Here are five ways to celebrate Pride throughout Italy this year.

Feel Pride in Bergamo!

Bergamo is celebrating Pride from June 11-13, 2021 with an incredible suite of events and activities that all can enjoy. On Friday, June 11, programming will be centered on LGBTQ+ people in sports, with a special panel conversation between journalist, writer, and TV personality Fabio Canino and Carlo Canavesi. That Saturday, check out all 7 stages across the city, each with a different Pride theme, to explore the city AND feel the love from Italy’s LGBTQ+ embracing population. The events continue into Sunday, where many more ways to celebrate can be found on Bergamo Pride’s website.

Experience Milan Pride Online From Anywhere in the World

Milano Pride is first and foremost a manifestation queer pride: an extraordinary celebration of freedom that is made possible by the combined work of pubblic offices, associations, and businesses as well as the participation of thousands of people. While the main parade event won’t be taking place this year due to Covid-19, there are still many ways to celebrate. Follow Milano Pride on Facebook to see how you can get involved in any of their many events throughout June 18 through June 27, 2021.

Visit Rome Gay Pride 2021

Rome was the host of the very first World Pride in 2000, and serves up a must-see celebration of Italy’s LGBTQ+ community each June. On the weekend of June 25 and 26, expect to feel Pride resonate throughout the streets of Rome. While we may not get the glitz and glamour of a full-on Pride parade this year that normally happens each June, this year’s festivities will take over the Piazza del Popolo, where organizers have planned an incredible line-up of events you won’t want to miss. Also, just minutes from the Colosseum, take a stroll down Via San Giovanni in Laterano, where local gay bars will have outdoor cocktails, live music, and general Pride fun. See more on Roma Pride’s official Instagram page.

Enjoy LGBTQ+ Art at Florence Queer Festival

Organized by IREOS, The Florence Queer Festival is one of the most important festivals in Tuscany dedicated to queer culture. The festival was launched in 2003, and celebrates the films and videos, theatre and photography, and literature that represent the spheres of gay, lesbian, bisexual, trans*, and intersex life, a queer identity; something that is constantly in movement and evolving, while intending to transcend the stereotypes that have been long enforced. The festival runs from September 21-26, 2021, and you can find out more information on the Florence Queer Festival website.

Join Naples Pride Festival this November

Naples plans to celebrate their annual Pride Festival a little later this year, thanks to new safety precautions around Covid-19. Naples Pride will take place on November 20 2021, in Camber Park. Follow the official Naples Pride Facebook page for more updates on 2021 programming.
